下宿屋にメイドさんがいるのはあたりまえ？
フィリピンの大学に1997年～99年の2年間、交換留学生して留学していた、現在ゲストハウスのサブマネージャーをしている佐藤さんが、当時の下宿屋（地方からの学生、会社員が主に利用）のようすについて話しをしてくれた。彼女が利用した下宿屋はサイドビジネスでやっている一般家庭の間貸しスタイルのものであったが、そこには田舎から呼び寄せられた遠い親戚の17歳の女の子が"お手伝い"として働いていた。女の子は年頃の変わらない子供たちの食事を作り、服にアイロンを掛け、おつかいに行くなど家事全般を1人でこなしていた。とても明るく笑顔のかわいい子だったそうだ。あるとき佐藤さんは彼女に「なぜここで働いているの」と聞いてみた。そのとき彼女は「お金を貯めて家族に牛を買ってあげるんだ」と。その言葉を佐藤さんは今でも忘れることができないという。
ここが下宿屋だからというわけではなく、マニラの中流家庭では、彼女のような地方から出てきたお手伝いさんはよく見かけるという。
失業率が高く満足な仕事がないこの国の事情がそうさせるのか、重労働でしかも精神的にもきつい「メイド」の仕事が、この国では好条件の仕事になっている。一方フィリピン人には他人の世話をする介護や看護、そしてメイドの仕事が向いているようでもある。
理由のひとつは、フィリピン人はマレー系、中国系、スペイン系にわかれ、マレー系は「同士」、中国系は「家族の絆」、スペイン系は「宗教心」を大切にする。そして全てのフィリピン人に共通するのが「陽気で素直」であるということだ。
03年末の海外で働くフィリピン労働者の数（及びその家族）は776万人で、フィリピンの人口8000万人に対して１割弱を占める。また、海外労働者からの母国への送金金額もＧＤＰの1割近くを占め、この国は海外労働への経済依存度が世界一となっている。
フィリピン人労働者が最も多い国は米国で、次いでサウジアラビア、マレーシア、カナダ、日本とつづく。日本には30万人が働いているといわれている。
陽気で素直な、そして家族おもいのフィリピン人メイドさんが世界中いたるところで活躍をしている。日本の一般家庭で、家族と一緒に生活をしながら働くフィリピン人のメイドさん。こんな光景を目にする日も近いかもしれない。

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My blog has a lot of completely unique content I've either written myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Hello, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, great blog!
