インド人の賃貸借事情 その１
山梨県にインド人が増えたという話しは初めて聞いた。調べてみると数自体は少ないものの、確かに03年の205人に対し05年は224人と1割弱増えている。日本全国でも13,340人から15,480人と1,000人以上増えた。宝石ブローカーなど、短期滞在者を含めればもっと増えているのだろう。
ところで、インド人の入居トラブルはどうなっているのだろうか。そんなに部屋は汚れているのだろうか。もしそうだとしても、それはインド人特有のことなのか、それとも入居者個別のことなのか。いろいろな人の話を纏めてみると、どうやら個々の問題というより習慣の違いで、インド人特有のことのようだ。インド人は自分で掃除をする習慣が無いらしい。ここで重要なことは"自分で"というところである。掃除をしないのではなく"自分ではしない"のである。それはお手伝いさんの仕事なのだ。日本に来ているインド人の多くは、本国ではお手伝いさんを雇用している。そのため洗濯も掃除もお手伝いさんなのだ。インド人にとってお手伝いさんは不可欠な存在といえる。でもここはお手伝いさんをそう簡単には雇用できない日本。そこが問題だ。
